Easily edit, create, organize, and share your photos with Adobe Photoshop Elements 2021 powered with Adobe Sensei AI technology. Photoshop Elements is quite a user-friendly program for image editing. It won’t be difficult to locate all the required tools and begin editing shots. Now, you may import shots in one click and work with the Auto Creation options. The Organizer, Photo and Video Editor (Premiere Elements) are present as well. I tried to install some types of Photoshop plugins, which, according to the information from the forums, Photoshop Elements should support. The program refused to install them, so be ready that your favorite plug-ins like Beauty Retouch Panel or ON1 Effects may simply not work here.

Loading Actions in Photoshop Elements (PSE5-10):
READ ME FIRST!!! Click here for instructions on loading actions in PSE11-12. I can't tell you how many frantic emails I get where someone loads 100 actions into PSE at one time and suddenly they can't see the action thumbnails for the actions they just installed or the ones they had previously installed. They get really upset and write me 'All of my old actions disappeared when I loaded new actions, HELP!!!' Do not worry! Unless you manually deleted your old actions (check the trash) they are still there, please don't freak out. If you must, check your PSE folder to assure yourself they are still there. Then follow my instructions below. In a nutshell; close PSE, restart your computer, delete the mediadatabase or thumbdatabase file, then restart PSE and allow it to rebuild. BE PATIENT! If you load 100 actions at once it might take hours for all of the thumbnails to show up. But they will, just give them time. And be sure to only load actions when PSE is closed. If you hate to wait, load just the actions you want to use right then. :-)
Windows (page down for Mac instructions):
Click here to find out how to install actions in Photoshop CS. :-) Loading Actions in PSE5-PSE10 in Windows 8 Updated Instructions! Click here if you are having issues!!!
NOTE: Make sure PSE is closed before adding any actions! 1. Download the actions to your desktop (I have a folder titled 'Downloads'). Unzip the folder if it is a zipped file. Make sure PSE is closed before installing any actions. And if this is your first time, load one action at a time. And do not load the action folders! Please open each folder, copy the png and atn files, and paste them in your program. If you load the folders holding the actions the actions won't work! 2. The .atn file is the action file. If you have PSE5 you need a .psd thumbnail file (so you can see an image in your action pane) and if you have PSE6-PSE10 you need a .png thumbnail. If the download does not include a thumbnail you will see a gray square in your action pane in PSE rather than a picture, so just dangle your mouse over it to see which action it is. You can make your own thumbnail for any action, just make a 64px by 64px square and save it as a .psd (PSE5) or png (PSE6-11). 3. I have posted two screenshot below to show you where to load actions in Photoshop Elements. Make sure PSE is closed before you install any actions. The first one will work with PSE6 through PSE10 in Vista and Windows 7 (except PSE6 is 6.0, PSE7 is 7.0, PSE8 is the 8.0, PSE9 is 9.0 folder, and PSE10 is 10.0 folder). The second one is for those of you installing actions in Windows XP.
NOTE: If you don't see the ProgramData folder go to:
Start, Control Panel, Classic View (in some versions of Windows),
Folder Options, View, Select 'show hidden files and folder and drives'
In this case I made a folder called 'CoffeeShop Actions' and I loaded all of my actions here. This does not always work, so I would suggest just dropping your actions in the photo effect folder with all of the ones that come with your program. And load one action at a time at first. Installing Actions in Vista and Windows 7 and 8:
Installing Actions in Windows XP: 4. Once you load your actions then open up PSE. You won't see the action thumbnail (little photo of the action) in your Action Pane at first. Make sure 'Show All' is showing and then click on the 'All' button (see 1. in the image below) and then click on the 'Photo Effects' button (see 2. in the image below). If you only see a gray square it means you loaded the action but not its thumbnail (or the wrong thumbnail for your program). It will still work, just dangle your mouse over the square to see the action name. When you run actions in PSE you have to have an image open, then double-click the action thumbnail. Most actions are meant to be run on a flat image, so make sure to go to Layer, Flatten Image before starting the action. 5. If the action does not work, you can not see it, or crashes your computer, just restart your computer and try again. Usually it works fine then. And sometimes it can take an hour or so for all of the actions to show up, so please be patient if you load more than a few actions at a time. And remember, not all actions work in PSE. Only a few actions on this site don't work in Photoshop Elements, and they are clearly marked. If you are having issues seeing your actions in your action pane, just close PSE, restart your program, delete the Mediadatabase file (see image below) and restart PSE. It will take some time to open because it will rebuild the Mediadatabase file, but it is supposed to solve 99% of all problems. I have never had to do this with my PSE6 in Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 but I have to do this when I load actions in PSE9 in my iMac. I found as long as I loaded the action and then clicked Photo Effects, All, then Photo Effects again the actions suddenly show up. Click Start My Computer ( Or Computer if using Vista ) C: Program Data Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0........... ( Or 10.0, 9.0, 7.0 or 6.0, if that's your version ) Locale En_ Us Now delete the 'MediaDatabase.db3' file. PSE ACTION USERS-IMPORTANT TIP! NOTE: Only for advanced users! If you have Photoshop Elements you know what a pain it is to find the action folder when you need to install your CoffeeShop Actions. You have to jump through so many hoops just to find the photo effects folder. Make a shortcut to your photo effects folder on your desktop! Once you find this folder you can make a shortcut on your desktop, then it is as simple as downloading the action and dropping it in a folder on your desktop! Follow the steps above to locate your photo effects folder.
Why Won't Photoshop Download
Find your photo effects folder and right click on it and 'Create Shortcut'. Then drag that shortcut link to you desktop! Now when I want to install my actions, I just click on my photo effect shortcut and drag the actions and thumbnails right in there! Or copy them from my Action file on my desktop and paste them there. Loading actions in PSE6-10 on a Mac: If you purchased PSE10 as an app from Apple: Go to Applications > Photoshop Elements 10 > ctrl or right click > choose show package contents > Application Data > Photoshop Elements > 10.0 > Locale > en_US > Workflow Panels > actions > and then copy any .atn file you want added in to there. Open PSE, and on the right side choose Edit > Guided > scroll down to Automated Actions and choose action player. If you purchased the PSE6-PSE10 program: 1. Make sure PSE is closed before loading any actions. And if you are new to loading actions, please load them one at a time. Download the actions to your desktop and unzip the action folder. Do not load the action folders! Please open each folder, copy the png and atn files, and paste them in your program. If you load the folders holding the actions the actions won't work! If you don't see your actions after loading them, close PSE, restart your computer, delete the thumbdatabase file, and then open PSE.
2. Follow this path (screenshot below):
Macintosh HD * Library Application Support Adobe Photoshop Elements 10.0 (or whatever version of PSE you own) Photo Creations photo effects *Note: If you have Lion OS you might not be able to see your Macintosh HD folder. Open ‘Finder Preferences’ on your top menubar and then check ‘Hard disks’ on ‘Sidebar’ tab under ‘Devices’ section. Or right-click on Applications and select 'open enclosing folder'. Then you should be in the Macintosh HD folder and you can follow the instructions seen below. 3. Drop the action (atn) and thumbnail (png) into the photo effects folder. 4. Then drag the ThumbDatabase.db3 in the trash (green below) and start PSE. Load one action at a time at first, and expect it to take some time for your PSE to rebuild. 5. Advanced Users:

Adobe Photoshop Won't Install
How to Install and Use Actions in Photoshop Elements 7–10 for Windows
By Linda Sattgast
Note: Beginning January 2016 our classes no longer support actions for versions of Photoshop Elements that don’t have an Actions panel (any version older than PSE 11). These instructions are only for actions created specifically for older versons.
Recommendation
Loading actions in older versions of Photoshop Elements is time consuming and often frustrating, so I would encourage you to upgrade to the current version of Photoshop Elements as soon as you can. You won't believe how much easier it is to load both actions and styles in the newer versions! Until then, here are the steps to install actions:
Reveal Hidden Folders
First, you need to make sure none of your folders are hidden.
Open the Start menu and type “Folder Options” into the search field.
Click on Folder Options to bring up a window.
In the View tab, under Files and folders, make sure “Show hidden files, folders, or drives” is checked.
Click OK and Apply and close the folder Options window.
Download and Unzip the Sample Action
To follow along, download the Resize-for-Gallery-Actions-EL-7-10.zip by right clicking on the download link and choosing the Save File option for your browser. (The exact wording to save a file to your computer may vary slightly in each browser.)
Once the action set is downloaded, right click on the zipped file and choose Extract All. Open the Resize-for-Gallery-Actions-EL-7-10 folder and you'll see a Terms of Use file, a preview image, and a folder that contains all the action files.
Open the Resize for Gallery EL 7-10 folder to see all nine .atn action files, each with three additional files—a metadata.xml file, a png image, and a jpg image.
Click on the top file and Shift click on the bottom file to select all the files. Press Ctrl C to copy the files.
Paste the files into the following folder inside Photoshop Elements: Start > My Computer > Local Disk (C:) > ProgramData > Adobe > Photoshop Elements > 7,8,9, or 10 >
In the folder of the Photoshop Elements version you chose, you’ll see a file called ThumbDatabase.db3. Right click on that file and choose Delete. Click OK to the dialog box that comes up.
In the same folder, click on Photo Creations and then Photo Effects. Photo Effects is the folder that contains all the default actions and where you can install additional action files. Notice there are four files for each action, just like the files you’re going to install.
Press Ctrl V to paste the actions you copied earlier into this folder.
Note: If you don’t see the ProgramData folder when you were following the Windows file path, it means you haven’t actually revealed the Hidden Files and Folders.
First make sure you've correctly followed the instructions above to reveal hidden files.
Sometimes you have to reboot Windows for those settings to take effect.
Another possibility is that your account is not an administrator account, and you can't change this setting. If this is the case you will have to make yourself an administrator. (Do an online search for how to do this, since this is beyond my expertise and may vary depending on your computer/browser.)
If you’re using Windows XP, you’ll need to click on ApplicationData instead of ProgramData, which you can access through the Documents and Settings/All Users folder.
Rebuild the Database
To rebuild the Effects panel database, close and reopen Photoshop Elements.
The Effects panel will rebuild its database, which will take a few minutes or sometimes longer.
A few computers have problems displaying installed actions, so check the information at the bottom of this page for one additional step you can take to force Photoshop Elements to recognize the actions.
How to Run an Action
If everything worked as it should, you’ll find the actions in the Effects panel. If you don't see the Effects panel, in the Menu Bar choose Window > Effects. Click on Photo Effects at the top of the panel. Open the menu, and choose Resize for Gallery.
I demonstrated how to run the Resize for Gallery action on a 12x12 scrapbook page, but you can use any size or orientation of page you desire, or you can use this action on a single photo or image that you want to resize for the web.
Decide which action you want to run. For the Resize for Web action, choose the correct aspect ratio for your file—square, vertical, or horizontal—and the pixel size you prefer, 600, 700, or 800 pixels. Double click on the thumbnail of the action you want to run.
Theaction will flatten your image and change the longest side of your document to the pixel dimmension you chose. It will then open the Save for Web dialog box. That's because a gallery image must be compressed further to reduce the file size enough for most galleries.
In Save for Web, in the panel on the right, choose JPEG for the file type and enter a Quality of 65. Check ICC Profile if you want to include the color space information. These settings make the file size plenty small enough for an online gallery. Once you save for web, the Save for Web dialog box should default to these settings the next time it opens.
To continue on, click OK. You'll be taken to a computer navigational window where you have the option to change the name. I usually add '-web' to the end of the file name. It's good practice for a web image to have no spaces in the file name.
Navigate to the location on your computer where you want to save your image and click Save to complete the process. When uploading your scrapbook page to an online gallery, you'll need to navigate to this location to choose your saved-for-web file. It may be helpful to have one folder that contains all your gallery-sized images so you always know where to find them.
Saving the gallery-sized image doesn't save the original image. To revert your scrapbook page to its original size with all its layers, you can either close the original image without saving it or choose Edit > Revert.
This is just one example of what actions can do. For other actions, follow the same steps to unzip, upload, and run them, and enjoy letting actions do the work for you!
If Actions Don’t Appear or Function
Delete the ThumbDatabase.db3 file again as described earlier.
In the same folder, open the Folder Locale and en_US folders. (If you purchased Photoshop Elements in another country, it may have a different name here.)
Delete the MediaDatabase.db3 file as well.
Reboot your computer.
Reopen Photoshop Elements. It will rebuild the deleted files, only this time it will most likely take hours. Don’t do anything with Photoshop Elements until it’s done.
This should make the actions appear and work. If not, there’s no other alternative but to go through these steps again (sometimes the second or third time does the trick) or purchase the current version of Photoshop Elements. By then you will have wasted more time than it would have cost to upgrade in the first place!
